Aklan State University once again showcased its research excellence as faculty members and student researchers from the College of Nursing received awards and special recognitions during the 1st International Health Research Conference 2026, conducted virtually via Zoom on June 25โ€“26, 2026.
Hosted by the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State Collegeโ€“UIP Center for Rural Health Research, Reform, and Policy, the international conference gathered researchers and healthcare professionals under the theme, “Innovating Health Research for Global Impact: Evidence, Equity, and Excellence in Healthcare Systems.”
Among the recognized researchers was Jason F. Oquendo, who earned 3rd Place for Best Oral Research Presenter in the Professional Level under the Mental Health, Population Health & Community Well-Being category for his research entitled “Healthherstory: Examining the Impact of Work Demographics on the Physiological Well-Being of Overseas Filipino Domestic Helpers.” His study was likewise selected as an official contender for the Best Paper Award. Demonstrating exceptional research competence, Oquendo also achieved the distinction of qualifying and presenting in two separate Professional conference categories.
Another outstanding achievement came from Aumaya Prado, who was awarded 1st Place for Best Oral Research Presenter in the Student Category for the study “Bridging Theory to Practice: Correlating Knowledge and Clinical Competence in Postpartum Nursing.” The research also advanced as an official contender for the Best Paper Award. The study was co-authored by Mary Irish Gaile T. Briones and Gabriela Angel B. Resco.
Meanwhile, the research team composed of Chriselda B. Delos Santos, Marjie Liggayu, and Lance Espenilla was recognized as an official contender for the Best Paper Award under the Equity, Policy, and Emerging Health Priorities โ€“ Professional Category for their study, “Perceived Stress Levels and Coping Strategies of Persons Deprived of Liberty.”
As Aklan State University continues to strengthen its culture of research and innovation, these international recognitions further affirm its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement.
