Introduction The ICT/MIS Unit of Aklan State University (ASU) is responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and security of the university’s information and communication technology (ICT) resources. It ensures the efficient operation of IT services to support administrative, academic, and research functions. |
Functions and Responsibilities |
1. IT Governance and Policy Implementation • Develops and enforces IT policies, guidelines, and standards-aligned with institutional, national, and international regulations. • Ensures compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and other cybersecurity standards. • Supports developing and implementing the Information Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP). 2. Network and Systems Administration • Manages the university’s network infrastructure, including wired and wireless connectivity. • Administers servers, cloud services, and data centers to ensure availability and security. • Implements network monitoring and cybersecurity measures to protect institutional data. 3. IT Support and Maintenance • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for faculty, staff, and students. • Oversees preventive maintenance of hardware, software, and other IT assets. • Manages the university’s IT helpdesk and ticketing system. 4. Software Development and Systems Management • Develops and maintains in-house applications of the university. • Develops, deploys, and maintains university-wide information systems, including Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Human Resource Management Information Systems (HRMIS), and the university website. • Manages and supports third-party software solutions used by the university. • Oversees database management, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility. 5. Cybersecurity and Data Privacy • Implements security measures to protect university data and IT infrastructure. • Conducts regular security assessments, audits, and penetration testing. • Ensures compliance with data privacy policies and conducts awareness programs. 6. ICT Resource Management • Oversees procurement, inventory, and lifecycle management of IT assets. • Implements role-based access control for IT resources. • Optimizes IT resource allocation to ensure efficient utilization. 7. IT Training and Capacity Building • Conducts IT training and digital literacy programs for faculty, staff, and students. • Provides workshops on cybersecurity awareness and responsible use of IT resources. • Supports research and innovation through emerging technologies. 8. Research and Development • Supports IT-related research projects, particularly in precision agriculture and smart farming. • Evaluates and adopt emerging technologies to enhance university operations. • Collaborates with other institutions for research and development initiatives. |
