ASU launches revived DYMT

Aklan State University launched the revived DYMT Multimedia-based Community Tele-Radio with a maiden broadcast on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Funded by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 6, DYMT started its first broadcast online via its Facebook page. The livestream was also shared in social platforms of the University as well as by students and personnel.

Mr. James Earl Ogatis, Chief of the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division of DA-VI, was the guest in the first broadcast hosted by Melpha Abello, Agricultural Technician under the Office of the Extension and Community Services.

Mr. Ogatis shared the different thrusts of DA, particularly on agricultural developments and opportunities that aim to entice young farmers.

“I am optimistic that young farmers will join in our challenge by submitting business proposals. This way, we can help expand the agricultural sector,” he said.

Mr. Ogatis also said that through teleradio, government agencies such as DA and ASU can bring their services and expertise closer to the farmers.

Dr. Emily M. Arangote, SUC President III, graced the the blessing and launching together with Dr. Cecile O. Legaspi, VP for Administration, and Dr. Arlene B. Dela Cruz, VP for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Arangote expressed her gratitude to DA-RFO 6 for the “realization of the revival of DYMT”. She said it will be an instrument to empower and educate farmers and stakeholders.

ASU-Banga Campus Director Dr. Michael T. Ibisate was also present, who delivered the Welcome Remarks.

Meanwhile, Prof. Juvy M. Casimero, Project Leader, shared the journey of the project proposal until it was given the 2.4M million fund from DA.

As a multimedia-based radio this time, DYMT will be using equipment for broadcast via digital platforms. Viewers can expect contents from different offices, especially the Extension and Research, aimed at disseminating research and technology to stakeholders.

DYMT, originally a community analog radio, made its maiden broadcast on December 15, 1993. Under the able leadership of Prof. Dr. Porfirio G. Bullo, DYMT received the KBP Golden Dove Award for Best Non-Commercial Radio Station.

DYMT faced setbacks, including damaged transmitter due to typhoons, and halted operation for several years. Recently, it lost its frequency to a commercial radio station.

But Prof. Casimero said digitalizing DYMT to use multimedia gives it wider reach and flexibility in content and programming.

Dr. Nenia N. Bohulano, Director for Extension and Community Services, will take on the role of Station Manager/Project Manager of the multimedia-based DYMT.

A blessing of the equipment/station at the ECS office took place before the launch, officiated by Fr. Magloire S. Placer
