Aklan State University once again demonstrated its growing strength in research innovation and technology commercialization as its flagship maritime safety technology, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, secured ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ and was also recognized as ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ during the ๐๐ข๐ญ๐๐ก-๐ญ๐จ-๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ง๐๐ซ (๐๐๐): ๐๐ข๐ญ๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐ held on May 7, 2026, at District 21 Hotel in Iloilo City.
The regional pitching competition formed part of the under ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฌ (๐๐๐๐) under the ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฆ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฌ, in partnership with University of the Philippines Visayas. The event gathered state universities and colleges (SUCs) across Western Visayas to showcase innovative technologies with strong commercialization and community impact potential.
Representing ASU was ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ฅ ๐. ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ฎ๐๐ฏ๐ from the College of Business and Management, who served as the official presenter of the technology during the pitching competition. He was joined by ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐๐ง from the College of Computer Studies, who provided technical support and collaboration for the presentation and development initiatives of the project. ๐๐ฌ. ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ง ๐. ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ, the Universityโs Technology Licensing Manager was also present.
SEAWAVES, formally known as the ๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐๐ญ๐ฒ, is a maritime monitoring and emergency alert system designed to enhance the safety of small-scale marine transportation, fisherfolk, and coastal tourism operations. This was conceptualized and led by ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐ง๐ง ๐. ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐จ, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Training, and Extension of Aklan State University, whose leadership and vision continue to advance ASUโs innovation ecosystem and community-responsive research initiatives.
The achievement of SEAWAVES in the regional pitching competition serves as another milestone for Aklan State University in advancing research commercialization and reinforcing its role as a leading institution for innovation and public service in Western Visayas and beyond. In the competition, the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) secured 1st Place, while Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) earned 3rd Place.
