Aklan State University (ASU) reaffirmed its commitment to quality and continuous improvement through the conduct of its University ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐:๐๐๐๐ Compliance Status Assessment on June 30, 2025. The program began with opening remarks from Dr. Luchelyn A. Beltran, Director of the Quality Assurance Office, who spoke on the universityโs sustained efforts to cultivate a results-oriented and efficiency-driven environment. She stressed the significance of ISO standards as a compass for aligning institutional operations with global benchmarks. This was followed by a message from Dr. Jeffrey A. Clarin, who reiterated ASU’s dedication to student-centered services and sound governance.
The session proper proceeded with the introduction of the resource person, ๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ. ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ ๐. ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฅโan accomplished Industrial Engineer and the Managing Director of ACF Consultancy and Training Services. Engr. Fraginal has a long-standing reputation in the field of quality and productivity systems, having served as a consultant for major corporations such as San Miguel Corporation. She is also the longest-serving assessor of the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) and has worked extensively with various sectors, including education, healthcare, logistics, and public service, both locally and abroad.
During the assessment, Engr. Fraginal provided a thorough review of the universityโs ISO documentation manuals and scrutinized the standardized procedures of different university units. Her evaluation not only identified opportunities for improvement but also acknowledged the efforts of departments striving to meet ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
For context, ISO 9001:2015 is a globally recognized standard that outlines the principles of a quality management system (QMS). It helps institutions ensure that their services consistently meet stakeholder expectations and comply with regulatory requirements. The standard promotes a process-based approach, focusing on leadership, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and continual improvement.
Spearheaded by the Quality Assurance Office, the assessment served as a strategic checkpoint, enabling ASU to refine its systems, affirm best practices, and reinforce a culture of excellence grounded in international standards.
