Mr. Yuji Yamamoto, Japan’s former Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and former Minister for Financial Services, and current member of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited Aklan State University and the Province of Aklan last July 16, 2024.
Along with Mr. Yamamoto were prominent figures and businessmen from the Kochi Prefecture and Shikoku Island (which he represents to the Diet, the Japanese national legislature). Their visit prefaces the forging of future partnerships both the university and the Province of Aklan for employment opportunities for on-the-job trainees (OJTs) of ASU and other HEIs in Aklan, and for Aklanon job-seekers as well.
A short program followed the site inspection by the Japanese visitors of the facilities at ASU – Kalibo. Mr. Raymond Elitiong, Information Officer III and OIC-University Secretary, welcomed the Japanese guests on behalf of ASU President Dr. Jeffrey A. Clarin, who was on official travel to Manila. He also received a token from the visitors on behalf of the president. Mr. Marsh Bernabe of the Office of the Provincial Public Employment Service Manager acted as facilitator/emcee during the program, and Mr. Joel Salaver acted as interpreter/translator for the Japanese guests.
A reception at the Provincial Capitol of Aklan, hosted by Gov. Jose Enrique Miraflores, followed the program at ASU – Kalibo.
In his message during both the program at ASU and the reception at the capitol, Mr. Yamamoto expressed his joy at the warm hospitality of the Aklanons and affirmed his commitment towards forging a partnership with ASU and the Province of Aklan to boost the aging Japanese workforce and help uplift the economy of the province and the Philippines by opening job opportunities for Filipinos.
Also present during the program are university officials and representatives of the ASU campus directors, faculty, and students from degree programs that may benefit from the OJT partnership between Japan and ASU.
