Aklan State University (ASU) strengthened its international research presence as its faculty researchers presented their studies at the 12th International Exchange and Innovation Conference on Engineering & Sciences (IEICES) held at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, on October 28โ30, 2026.
The conference provided an international platform for sharing peer-reviewed research, exchanging innovative ideas, and fostering academic collaboration across disciplines. Among the accepted studies was the research of Dr. Melba L. Raga-as, titled โGIS-Based Assessment of Groundwater Potential for Shallow Tube Well Suitability for Small-Scale Irrigation in the Municipality of Banga, Aklan,โ which explored the application of geographic information systems in identifying potential groundwater resources for agricultural use.
Also presenting their research were Dr. Carolyn E. Flores-Salazar, with โCustomizing OpenAI’s Custom GPT’s Efficiency in Handling Higher Education Admission Queries,โ and Dr. Willie Cabilete, with โIntegrating Computer Vision into Hospitality Education: Development of an AI-Based Glassware Learning Tool.โ Dr. Jolitte A. Villaruz, a co-author of the latter study, was also present at the conference.
Their participation highlights ASU’s continuing commitment to research excellence, technological innovation, and the advancement of knowledge through international academic engagement. It also provides opportunities to share locally relevant research and contribute to discussions on emerging solutions in education, agriculture, and technology.
