Officials from Aklan State University (ASU) participated in the Crafting of the Regional Natural Fiber and Textile Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Agenda and Roadmap for Western Visayas held on February 19โ20, 2026 at Iloilo Science and Technology University, La Paz, Iloilo City.
Representing ASU were Dr. Michael T. Ibisate, Director, Planning and Development, Dr. Melba L. Raga-as, Director, Research and Development, and Dr. Jollite A. Villaruz, Director, Intellectual Property Mangement. Their participation underscores the Universityโs commitment to advancing research collaboration and innovation initiatives in the region.
The activity was organized by the Western Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development in line with the directives of the Regional Development Council Region VI through its Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Committee (RRDIC).
The two-day workshop aimed to collaboratively formulate the Natural Fiber and Textile RDI Agenda of Western Visayas through in-depth discussions on priority programs, policy directions, and coordination mechanisms. It also sought to develop a comprehensive four-year roadmap to guide the strategic growth and advancement of the regionโs natural fiber and textile sector.
As one of the key stakeholders in research and development in Western Visayas, ASU continues to strengthen its role in shaping regional innovation strategies that support sustainable industry growth, inclusive development, and knowledge-driven solutions.
