Aklan State University made a mark at the 2025 Artificial Intelligence Fest, held on August 11โ13 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. Organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) with the theme โCoding a Better Future: Responsible AI for Cities and Communities,โ the three-day festival brought together innovators, researchers, and creatives for a dynamic exchange of ideas and technologies shaping the future of AI.
The event featured a strong lineup of activities, including the SineAI film showcase, AI Hackathon, AI exhibits, and a technical conference spotlighting groundbreaking AI research and innovations.
Representing ASU in the AI Technical Conference, Dr. Melba L. Raga-as, Center Head of the National Fiber Resource and Technology Center and Director of Research and Development Services, presented HIBLATEK: AI-Driven Warp and Weft Density Counting for Natural Fiber Fabric.
Meanwhile, Prof. Julie Ann A. Salido, in collaboration with Prof. Conrado Ruiz Jr. of De La Salle University, delivered a study on Semantic Segmentation of Skin Lesions Using Deep CNNs with Artifact Removal and Multiclass Detection.
In the creative arena, ASU Kaliboโs Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (BSEMC) students earned a coveted Top 10 spot in the national SineAI competition with their AI-assisted short film โPaadto Ka Pa Eang, Pabalik Eon Ako.โ The work skillfully blended regional storytelling with emerging AI filmmaking tools, showcasing the power of technology in cultural preservation and innovation.
Through its strong presence in both technical and creative categories, Aklan State University underscored its dedication to advancing research, innovation, and the ethical integration of AI across disciplinesโaffirming its role as a leader in shaping a responsible, tech-driven future.
