ASU-CTE holds Grad School Faculty Summit

Faculty who are PhD and EdD holders teaching in the Graduate School of ASU-College of Teacher Education (CTE) gathered together during the Graduate Teacher Summit at the ASU Conference Hall, January 18, 2023.

The event was organized by CTE Dean Dr. Arvin Kim A. Arnilla to lay down issues, concerns, and opportunities in the Graduate School programs offered by ASU.

The 1st plenary session discussed the reforms in Graduate education as stipulated in CMO 15 s. 2019. The CMO states that only a faculty who has completed a doctorate and has published researches (preferable with citations) can teach in the Graduate School. Thus, Dr. Arnilla, encouraged the participants who are all doctorate holders to stand as advisers, co-researchers, or panelists for Graduate School students.

Dr. Arnilla also apprised the participants on some journals where they can publish articles. Journals should be indexed in SCOPUS, Web of Science, or the ASEAN Citation Index in order to be accredited. The CTE Dean also reminded everyone to be wary of predatory journals.

Meanwhile, Research and Development Director Dr. Melba L. Raga-as expounded on the many opportunities in Graduate Studies as potential sources of researches worthy of publication in indexed journals.

Dr. Manuel Malonisio discussed two ways to deepen test verification and validation in researches: Path Analysis for Model Verification and Rasch Analysis for Test Development.

During the afternoon plenary session, Prof. Cheeryl V. Garcia of ISAT-U Miag-ao Campus, discussed the possibilities for using Learning Management Systems in the Graduate School. She said the LMS will allow flexibility and distance education to grauate students.

Dr. Arnilla also presented the proposed revisions of the Graduate Studies Handbook. He reiterated that researches in the Graduate School should focus on quality education, culture, and sports, in order to adhere to the CTE thrust and agenda. Schedules, deadlines, templates, and even the flow for oral presentations have been set. The Dean’s Office will also release an updated list of advisers/panelists that Graduate Students can select from, depending on their subject matter and expertise.
