Department of Science and Technology Secretary Renato U. Solidum conducted a site visit of the Prototype Hybrid Trimaran Project 2 of Aklan State University at Metallica Marine Consultancy, Fabrication and Services Shipyard, New Washington, Aklan on January 11 2023.
Prof. Julie Ann A. Salido, Project Leader of Trimaran 2, presented updates in the progress of the project, including the fabrication of the waterjet propulsion system.
Sec. Solidum also asked questions on the project that were answered by the Trimaran 2 project team. He also proposed the creation of “S&T Action Team” or STAT during the presentation on Action Response Marine Vessels by Engr. Jonathan Salvador from Metallica shipyard.
Also present during the site visit were Engr. Rowen Gelonga, DOST 6 Regional Director and their team from DOST. ASU officials and personnel present were Mr. Edilberto Solidum, representing the Office of the SUC President, Prof. Julie Ann A. Salido, Mr. Modesto Melden B. Intoy, Prof. RJ A. Ampoyos, and Mr. Randy J. Pastor.
They were joined by the personnel from Metallica shipyard.
The research project is funded by the DOST, implemented in ASU-New Washington in partnership with Metallica Marine Consultancy Fabrication Services. This is a contination of the completed project which developed a hybrid trimaran that uses energy from ocean waves.
