The Aklan State University’s (ASU) edges in Research and Development and Extension were showcased at the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) Products Fair during the Higher Education Week celebration of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on May 17-21, 2010 at CHED Center Compound, Diliman, Quezon City. The 2010 SUCs Products Fair is one of the highlights of CHED’s 16th anniversary celebration in partnership with the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC). The activity is in consonance with the Commission‘s mandate to assist the SUCs to showcase their products and technologies which they have created, developed or produced. Likewise, it helps promote the flagship projects of SUCs and serves as promotional activity to widen the market of SUCs products in the country.

          ASU displayed a variety of products from Aklan Piña such as men’s and ladies’ barong, gowns, bags and fans. Other exhibits include abaca products such as slippers, bags, key chains, bracelets, cellphone holder, and fiber sheets. Processed food products from ASU Food Processing Laboratory were also displayed such as fruit juices, jellies, ginger tea, banana/camote chips and pickled nata de coco, as well as fish products like deboned bangus of ASU College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. Displayed also are rice pop “ampaw” from recipients of DOST and ASU-assisted project in the Municipality of Lezo. The University was represented in the Products Fair by its Officer-in-Charge Dr. Benny A. Palma, together with Dr. Danilo E. Abayon, Executive Director of College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Dr. Elsa I. Abayon, Director of Research and Development Services, Dr. Lelisa J. Teodosio, Project Leader of the Aklan Piña Project, Mrs. Norma Quillano, Project Cooperator, and Mr. Arthur E. Jizmundo of the Extension and Community Services Unit.
