Overview
 School of Veterinary Medicine The Aklan State University-School of Veterinary Medicine bears the honor and privilege of being the first institution to offer a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program in the Western Visayas region through board resolution No. 5, s. 1995. The curricular program started as ladderized Bachelor of Animal Science-Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (BAS-DVM) in 1995. The curriculum was revised in 1997 into a straight six-year program in compliance with the recommendation of the Commission on Higher Education, Technical Panel for Agriculture Education (CHED-TPAE). The revised curriculum was composed of two years pre-veterinary and four years professional veterinary courses
Series of evaluations have been conducted to assess the compliance status of the program based on the minimum standard requirements set by CHED-TPAE. The first evaluation on June 5, 1997 recorded a percentage compliance of 38.2%. The second evaluation conducted on November 4-6, 1998 had a percentage compliance of 66.7%. It produced its first batch of graduates and contributed licensed veterinarians registered with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on March 2001 and August 2002, respectively.
The School of Veterinary Medicine formally operated as a separate degree granting unit on January 8, 2003 by virtue of ASU Memorandum Order No. 01-17, s. 2003.
